Dr. Stephen (Steve) Safe is a Distinguished and Regent’s Professor of Toxicology in the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology. He received his Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from Oxford University, Great Britain, and he completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard University. He also has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, and an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Queen’s University, Canada. Dr. Safe was a Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada from 1968-1973. He then became a Associate Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph from 1973-1981. Dr. Safe came to the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology at Texas A&M University 1981 and received the title of Distinguished professor in 1984. He has received many awards in recognition of his teaching and research (below). He has served in multiple NIH study sections, reviewed for multiple journals, and is a review editor for multiple journals.
